A Clinical Study of the Chemotherapy in Malignant Lymphoma

Abstract
Chemotherapy is the treatment of choice to the advanced Hodgkin¢¥s disease and non-Hodgkin¢¥s disease. We have obtained the results after the comparative analysis between single and combi-nation chemotherapy of the malignant lymphoma at the Department of Surgery, Seoul National University Hospital as belows.
1. The number of the patients of the malignant lymphoma was 19, whose medical records were available and who had received chemotherapy, among total 46 cases for last 8 years-
2. The number of the patients who had been treated with single chemotherapy, of Cyclophosphamide (Group A) was 9 and of the combination chemotherapy (Group B) was 6 with CVP and 4 with VEMP.
3. Complete remission rate was 55% in Group A and 90% in Group B, and partial remission rate was 22% and 10% respectively. The latter had better result.
4. The median duration to the remission was 3 weeks in Group A and 2 weeks in Group B2 and the mean was significantly (P5. The median duration of the remission period was above 4 weeks and above 6 weeks resp-ectively, so the latter was longer, and the cases who had the remission period for more than 3 months were 2 and 8 cases respectively.
6. The combination chemotherapy to the recurred cases with previous radio-or chemotherapy was also effective in several cases.
7. Toxic symptomes during chemotherapy appeared in 7 and 2 cases respectively and they were fever gastro-intestinal disturbances, neurotoxicity in the orders, and the cases who needed discontinuity of the drugs due to bone marrow depression were 6 and 3 cases respectively, and the cases who received blood transfusion due to the toxicity were 4 and 1 cases respectively.
8. The confirmed survivors for more than 6 months were 1 and 5 cases respectively, and for more than 1 Year were 3 cases in the Group B.
With these results, we concluded that the combination chemotherapy was better in the efficacy, less toxic and had more long time survivors than the single chemotherapy.
